Do you start asking yourself why you want to run an event?

Identifying the purpose of your event can be quite difficult but it starts with asking:

Why do you want to run an event?
What’s your cause? (This fuels your purpose)
Do you have a solution?
What do you want to achieve by running an event?

Understanding the purpose of your event is really important as it will naturally guide you on the type and format of the event.

SMART goals to measure the success of events

After identifying the purpose of an event, goals and objectives come into play. Goals refer to the desired outcome to be achieved at some point in the future. Objectives are specific, short-term targets with measurable results.

Working on a client’s meeting project, we established purpose, goals and objectives:
Purpose: team building
Goal: fostering a “work hard, play hard culture”
Objectives: providing updates, sharing information, soliciting participation in a team environment and having fun

With a set of SMART goals in place, we have a strategy for assessing how close we are to achieving the overall aims of the event.

S– Specific: developing effective internal communication

M– Measurable: through employee feedback

A– Attainable: leadership facilitating collaboration and soliciting ideas and input

R– Relevant: improving team efficiency and communication increases motivation within the team and the business as a whole

T– Time-bound: engagement metrics will be reviewed and assessed every 3 months to measure progress
